Amcanion cyffredinol
Provision of food is already one of the greatest global challenges and is going to intensify as population approaches the projected 9 billion by the middle of this century. Intended for non-specialists, the module will describe the existing situation and likely future prospects, how we have met food demand in the past and might in the future, how global food systems are managed, and ways in which we are trying to reduce the environmental impact of food production and overcome constraints to food security.

Grade C- to B+ In addition to the above: Demonstrate understanding of the complexities of global food productions systems and the compromises that are necessary to ensure continued security of production, and of the effects of policy factors. Show evidence of some additional background reading, either by presenting new information or discussing topics in greater detail than in lectures.

Grade A- and above Achieve a mark of 70% overall for the module. In addition to the above, be able to present a well reasoned arguments for and against particular philosophies and approaches to food production and security. Present clear evidence of wide reading around the subject and an ability to analyse and synthesise arguments and information, and present this knowledge cogently under examination conditions.
