The School has strong links with Technium Optic, which together with ICON and the Optolectronics research group cover the complete range of research and technology services in the optoelectronics sector.
An innovative and enabling combination
Opto-electronics is an innovative and enabling combination of optical and electronics technology. This technology is evident in a range of commercial and domestic products including fibre optic communications, DVD/CD optical storage, phone and computer displays, laser printers and scanners, video and digital cameras and lasers used for a host of applications such as detection, cutting, welding and coding.
Growing businesses in opto-electronics
The aim of OpTIC is to grow businesses in opto-electronics and related technologies. OpTIC can support up to 24 young technology businesses start-ups in units of up to 150 sq m. In support of this OpTIC has a co-located Technology Centre with state of the art clean room facilities for use by tenants and is also home to a number near market technology groups.
