Dr. Cristiano Palego: Senior Lecturer in Smart Sensors and Instrumentation.
Dr. Palego received the M.S. degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Perugia, Italy, in 2003, and the Ph.D. degree in Microwave Engineering and Optoelectronics from the University of Limoges, France, in 2007. He has been a postdoctoral research associate (2007-2010) and research scientist at Lehigh University (USA), since.
His interests include electromagnetic theory, micro/nanotechnology and biomedical research as well as RF-MEMS for reconfigurable frontends, antenna arrays, and high-power applications. Cristiano is a senior member of the IEEE Microwave Theory and Techniques (MTT) Society, of the European Microwave Association (EuMA), and of the EuMA Technical Group on RF MEMS. He has also been the first UK member of the IEEE Technical Committee MTT-10 that focuses on “Biological Effects and Medical Applications of RF and Microwave”.
At Bangor, Cristiano is now leveraging support from the Sêr Cymru National Research Network on Advanced Engineering and Materials and developing CMOS-compatible lab-on-chip technology for microwave biosensing and manipulation.
He has additionally earned support from the Welsh European Funding Office to supervise a M.Sc. Knowledge Economy Skills Scholarship (KESS) program pursuing on-wafer characterization of adipose tissue for microwave-based liposuction technology, and a KESS Ph.D. program focusing on minimally invasive honey bee telemetry systems.
