Professor K Alan Shore graduated in mathematics from the University of Oxford (1971) and obtained a PhD at University College, Cardiff, Wales, UK (1975). His thesis work concerned the electrical and optical properties of double-heterostructure semiconductor lasers. His subsequent research work has been principally in the area of semiconductor optoelectronic device design and experimental characterisation with particular emphasis on the nonlinear behaviour of laser diodes. He has authored or co-authored over 940 contributions to archival journals, books and technical conferences.
He was a lecturer at the University of Liverpool (1979-1983) and then at the University of Bath where he became Senior Lecturer (1986), Reader (1990) and Professor (1995).
