Literary and Creative Activity
Pontio is the main focal point for the arts in Bangor and the wider region. Its Bryn Terfel Theatre hosts live drama, comedy and music from touring groups; its Studio Theatre hosts smaller-scale productions and book launches; its cinema hosts live, televised productions from the National Theatre, as well as arthouse film.
Bangor English Drama Society is a student-run society which usually puts on three plays a semester, and which supports students who want to get involved in acting, directing and stagecraft.
The School of English Literature plays host to a regular series of visiting creative writers. Recently, these have included:
- Philip Pullman
- Jackie Kay
- Jack Mapanje
- Simon Kerr
- Vahni Capildeo
- Matthew Welton
- Damian Walford-Davies
The School hosts Contempo, a centre for contemporary poetry, which organises a range of readings and seminars.
There are also book launches, numerous research seminars and one-off events happening throughout the academic year, in which students play an active part. Contact firstname.lastname@example.org to find out about the latest.
