The 2016 Nobel Prize for Chemistry
The Nobel Prize for Chemistry awarded to Professors Jean-Pierre Sauvage, Sir Fraser Stoddard and Bernard Feringa is a triumph for pure, fundamental chemistry and emphasises the importance of the often neglected idea of blue-sky or grass roots chemical research. Their fantastic work on molecular machines; finite assemblies of purpose built molecules (both inorganic and organic in origin), designed and constructed to move at OUR WILL, marries perfectly the fields of inorganic, organic and physical chemistry and gives chemistry the platform it thoroughly deserves.
