Get Ready for University Youtube Channel

I think the Get Ready for University Channel is a great opportunity for students to get a feel of what it’s really like at University and get the best advice they possible can before the go – It’s all coming from the students!

I wanted to get involved with the channel to show people that starting a new chapter in life and living away from home isn’t as scary as people think! I’m loving my time here at Bangor and I’m learning something new about myself every day – I want to share these things and reassure people that they will have an amazing time at Uni.

I had come across the channel before applying to Bangor. It seemed really fun and a great thing to be a part of – I’m happy to be on board!

Support…

So far the University has been so supportive! Whenever I’ve had a problem I can just email my personal tutor and I know she’ll be there! That’s the one of the great things about being at Bangor University, help is just an email away and everybody is so approachable that you’re don’t feel awkward or embarrassed to ask for it!

Alysha Khan

Alysha Khan, 19 from London is studying Linguistics at Bangor University.

"Before I applied to be part of the channel, I watched many of the videos posted beforehand by the vloggers and it inspired me to get involved!"

Get Ready for University Youtube Channel

My interest in vlogging started as I used to watch people make videos themselves and upload them giving advice or just generally entertaining others and so that sparked something within me.

Before I applied, I watched many of the videos posted beforehand by the vloggers and it inspired me to get involved!

Support…

Everyone is super supportive and will remind you that they are there for you in whatever way you may need, which is good.

Vlogging…

I made friends with a really famous YouTuber called Benji Travis from ItsJudysLife at a YouTube event and he helped me get into vlogging. I now have my own channel TheAspieWorld where I upload weekly vlogs and advice on coping with Aspergers Syndrome (ASD). I also have a gaming channel and a review channel.

Student Support…

The University has been exceptionally helpful especially the Disabled Student Services! I have Asperger Syndrome and I’ve received a lot of support.

Get Ready for University Youtube Channel

I love the Channel! Because I love to vlog and I think it gives so many students (already in Bangor or who want to come to Bangor or any other university) a really good insight of everything they’d possibly want to know - especially uni life and how to cope with it.

Best things about Bangor?

The best things about Bangor are my friends, the landscape and the fact that it is a student city and everything is really nearby.

When I leave, I will miss my friends and colleagues. Bangor is my second home.

Vlogging...

I only got into Vlogging when I joined the Get Ready for University Channel. I would just watch other vloggers on YouTube before that, and that made me think I should do some of my own.

Get Ready for University Youtube Channel

The Get Ready for University channel, I would say, gives out a lot of tips on how to actually live a student life and make the most of it. I got involved when I saw the advertisement on the Bangor University page for aspiring vloggers to submit their vlog to the channel to select a few for it.

Best thing about Bangor?

The best thing about it is everything! The lecturers are I would say the top best thing. They are amazing, funny and know how to motivate students. The course syllabus is extremely good and we have all the resources we need at all times.

Videos and vlogging...

I’ve been making videos for a long time, and I’ve done everything from beauty tutorials to cooking and health videos, but vlogging is still a relatively new concept for me.

It’s a wonderful idea that I was surprised to find relatively un-developed on the vlogosphere. Many vloggers will do the one-off video, but you’d be hard pressed to find a channel dedicated to getting ready for university.

Best thing about Bangor?

The air - physically and spiritually. The air is pretty much always clear in Bangor and you’ll never have trouble breathing. My friends always laugh when I tell them this, but if you come from big cities like London or Shanghai, it’s really obvious! When I leave, I’ll miss the fact that I can randomly wave down the hill and it's almost guaranteed that someone will wave back. I will also miss how the pier and mountains are all within reach.
