Distinguished alumni Professor John Porter awarded Bangor University Honorary Fellowship

The graduation ceremonies at Bangor University celebrate the great achievements of hundreds of students each year.  They also provide an opportunity to recognise the achievements of individuals who have made a distinguished contribution to their chosen field of endeavour, through the award of an Honorary Fellowship.

Prizes for forestry students at Bangor University Graduation 2016

A total of 59 forestry degrees were awarded at Bangor University in July 2016, including students who had completed undergraduate, postgraduate and distance learning programmes.

Hannah overcomes dyslexia to graduate with a First Class degree

A student who feared she wouldn’t pass her GCSEs is celebrating graduating with a First Class degree in Psychology with Child Language Development.   

Hannah Jukes from Cannock, Staffordshire struggled throughout school and suspected from her early teens that she was dyslexic. However, Hannah wasn’t formally diagnosed with dyslexia until she began studying at Bangor.

Psychology student graduates after best time of her life

An exuberant Bangor University student graduates after five of the ‘best years’ of her life, having immersed herself completely in every opportunity that became available. Aimee Boyd, 23, from Wolverhampton, graduated with a BSc Clinical and Health Psychology with International Experience degree.

A passionate urban conservationist graduated from Bangor University with his “dream degree” this week. Former Sparsholt College student, Macauly Gatenby, 22, from Portsmouth graduated with a BSc Zoology with Conservation degree after studying at the University’s School of Biological Sciences.

Hobby and career change leads to First Class Honours!

Creative Technologies graduate Spencer Rose from Denver, Colorado, United States, enrolled in university with the goal of becoming an airline pilot 9 years ago. He soon discovered that his day-in, day-out passion was working on video games - which had been a hobby for many years.  This week he will be graduating with a First Class Honours degree.

The School of Ocean Sciences at Bangor University has been highly praised by an Irish student who will be graduating this week. Kristopher Humphreys, from Drogheda in Ireland decided to study Marine Biology after hearing positive comments about the course and the University.

A family affair

13 July will be a special day for one family from Garndolbenmaen this year as a mother and daughter take part in the same degree ceremony. Stepping onto the stage to be presented with her degree in Welsh will be Margiad Elen Lloyd Dobson, 21. On the same stage will be her mother, Bethan, who will recite a poem written by the late Emeritus Professor Gwyn Thomas, ‘Y Coleg ar y Bryn / The College on a Hill’.

Historic Medals go under the hammer

Medals belonging to a pioneering Bangor scientist are to go under the hammer at a world leading auction house this week (Thursday 21 July)

Lot 167 and 168 in the Spink Sale of Orders, Decorations, Campaign Medals and Militaria are medals awarded to Dr Harold King, who graduated in Chemistry from Bangor University (then the University College of North Wales) in 1909.

Prizewinning student graduates

After a strong performance throughout his studies, an award-winning student from Bangor University graduated this week. As well as graduating with a first class BA History degree, Sean Martin, 27, also won the Dr John Robert Jones Prize of £1,500, which is awarded annually to three of the best students across all disciplines at the University.

A Bangor University student who has set her sights on running her own language school in Spain is a step closer to realising her dream after graduating this week. Elise Davies, 22, from Bristol graduated with a BA honours degree in French and Spanish after four years of “endless opportunities and experiences.”

Christian Bolton-Edenborough, 22, from Potters Bar, Hertfordshire graduated with an LLB Law degree and feels grateful for all the support he has had from his parents during a very difficult second year of his degree.

Bangor University award Honorary Fellowships during Graduation Week 2016

Lucky graduates at one of Bangor University’s 10 degree ceremonies to be held next week will hear renowned opera star Elin Manahan-Thomas sing during their degree ceremony, as she receives an Honorary Fellowship at the University.

Other Honorary Fellowship recipients during the week include the highest-ranked female in the British Armed forces, a renowned sculptor, television presenter, actor and other notable individuals.

They will be joining over 3,000 graduating students for the ceremonies which take place at the University’s splendid Prichard Jones Hall between 11-15 July.

A Canadian international student will now pursue her dream of “changing the world” after graduating from Bangor University this week. Elizabeth Megan Strange, 23, from Medicine Hat, Alberta, Canada, graduated with a LLB Law degree after an incredibly busy and successful two years of study.

A mature student who has taken an alternative approach to life and education feels like she has ‘finally accomplished something’ after graduating from Bangor University this week. Kate Maura Jones, 28, from Llanberis graduated with a First Class BA Criminology & Criminal Justice degree despite being diagnosed with dyslexia and dyspraxia, and juggling work and basketball commitments.
