Psychiatric Poe in Translation

Dr Jocelyn Dupont (University of Perpignan)

Biography:

Jocelyn Dupont is Senior Lecturer in contemporary American literature and film at the University of Perpignan, France.  He has published a number of articles on contemporary American fiction and film, with a particular emphasis on the issue of “textual pathology”. In 2012, he edited the volume Patrick McGrath: Directions and Transgressions for Cambridge Scholars Publishers. He also co-edited three collective volumes for Perpignan University Press. His current research focuses on the cinematographic representation of psychopathology in the American feature film from 1945 to the present day. He recently edited an issue of the French Film Journal CinemAction (N° 159/ Summer 2016) about cinema and mental illness. In the summer 2017, he convened a one-week conference at the Château de Cerisy entitled “Spectres de Poe dans la littérature et dans les arts”. Beside his academic research, he is also in charge of film programming at the Institut Jean Vigo, the regional Film Institute located in the city of Perpignan.
