Welsh Crucible

Welsh Crucible is an initiative to support the professional and leadership development for the future research leaders of Wales. It is funded by HEFCW / The Saint David’s Day Group of universities (Aberystwyth, Bangor, Cardiff, Glamorgan and Swansea) and consists of three intensive two-day (residential) workshops comprising inspiring guest speakers, seminars, skills sessions and informal discussions. There is an annual competitive call for applications and 30 places are awarded. Applications are invited from researchers (in any discipline) with three years’ postdoctoral research experience (or equivalent).

Successful applicants have come from the Universities of Aberystwyth, Bangor, Cardiff, Glamorgan, Swansea and Cedar, an NHS evaluation centre. They are selected on the basis of their excellence in research and interest in interdisciplinary research. All successful applicants demonstrate a commitment to thinking collaboratively about the impact of their work and to communicating their research beyond the academy.
