Overall aims and purpose
This final module will integrate previous modules of foundation and clinical physiology. The module will aim to emphasise the importance of physiology in the interpretation of investigations and the delivery of therapies by employing clinical focused teaching. This will enable the student to develop a understanding of the role of physiology in a Clinical setting. This will draw heavily from previous acquisition of an understanding of the normal/abnormal physiology of the human body.
This final module gives the students an opportunity to explore and apply the clinical application of their knowledge to the physiology of the body. Again each system will be reviewed with students able to apply their knowledge.
Students will learn about the presentation, physiology, treatment and evaluation of a number of different conditions.
Category D (40%-49%):
Basic factual information only based on teaching notes, generally accurate but with some errors or gaps.
The difference between the marks reflects the knowledge gaps and the weaknesses of the argument.
C- to C+
Category C (50-59%):
Reasonably comprehensive coverage, indicating generally accurate understanding, based on lecture material and some core readings.
Category B (60%-69%):
Comprehensive and accurate coverage, showing good use of teaching material and core readings. Is able to demonstrate good knowledge of human physiology and the structures that make up the body. Evidence of some wider reading. Materials largely based on module information.
Category A (70%-100%):
Has sophisticated knowledge of human physiology and the structures that make up the body. Very comprehensive and accurate coverage, indicating that the student has gone beyond the core readings and explored the topic in depth.
Evidence of wider reading & critical thinking is required for A+ and A* marks.
Understand the therapeutic approach to underlying physiological dysfunction
Understand the importance of a disease process and the outcome of intervention
Demonstrate an understanding of both normal and abnormal physiology
Correlate physiological measurements with clinical scenarios and organ function.
Interpret a given result to a particular clinical condition, e.g. agranulocytosis

Teaching and Learning Strategy
20 x 2 hour Lectures
Self-directed study where students are expected to read around the subject area and build upon their understanding of the taught material delivered in lectures. As well as dedicating time to work on their coursework and revise for upcoming examinations.
