Overall aims and purpose
The purpose of this bilingual module is to consolidate and develop previously attained professional knowledge and skills to ensure that students have the necessary predisposition and knowledge to facilitate the transition from student to registered professional. Students will develop the knowledge and skills required to participate in the educative processes expected of all professional practitioners. The Department of Health is continuing to improve clinical effectiveness and the quality of patient/client care; consequently there is a need for students to acquire the knowledge and skills pertaining to risk management, quality assurance, leadership and management. Students will develop knowledge and skills for decision making to support the processes of delegation and develop a basic understanding of the skills required for successful inter-professional working, leadership and management. These will be developed and utilised to meet the contemporary expectations of relevant regulatory bodies and patients/clients.

- Evaluate the principles and theories of leadership and management to determine their relevance to the care setting and the provision of healthcare services. Evaluate the concepts and processes of leadership and management in relation to the delivery of healthcare and professional practice. Critically analyse the National quality assurance and risk management strategies and their relevance to the clinical setting. Analyse and apply legislation and policy on the provision of healthcare in England and Wales and reflect on the implications for professional practice. Analyse research and other evidence and justify healthcare decisions, even when made on the basis of limited information and engage in legally and ethically defensible practice. Demonstrate the ability to recognise the learning needs of others and facilitate their learning. Demonstrate the ability to reflect in-action and on-action and provide evidence of how this supports the process of critical thinking, decision making and the evaluation of future learning needs. Critically analyse the concept of clinical supervision and its application to their own, and others’ practice and the continuing development of knowledge, lifelong learning and PREP/CPD.
Teaching and Learning Strategy
|The facilitation of learning will involve an appropriate use of teaching methods with an emphasis on student participation and a self-directed approach to learning. Teaching will be facilitated through key note lectures, seminars and e-learning activities.|
