Overall aims and purpose
This module will provide students with opportunities to critique and evaluate mental health practice in the context of contemporary policy and provision. The module focuses on negotiating complex tensions in working collaboratively across organisational boundaries. The module aims to provide experienced student nurses with an understanding of mental health nursing which will underpin their practice as they prepare for registration across a range of settings. The module will link the student’s practice to theoretical and research based interventions and management.

Critique and evaluate appropriate theories of communication within the practice of mental health nursing for effective working relationships.
- Implement and evaluate the knowledge and skills required for safe, compassionate & effective mental health nursing practice.
- Demonstrate the ability to recognise the learning needs of others and facilitate their learning.
- Demonstrate the ability to reflect in-action and on-action and provide evidence of how this supports the process of critical thinking, decision making and the evaluation of future learning needs.
- Critically evaluate mental health nursing in different contexts, with cognisance of culture, diversity, groups and the individual across the lifespan
- Critically analyse appropriate models/frameworks of health and wellbeing in the context of mental health nursing practice.
