Why is Bangor University a good choice for the course you are studying?
I chose this university because the course I wanted to do was offered here, it is a good course and Bangor Business School is number 1 in the entire country. There are a lot of great modules being taught here and I love how the tutors are so good at lectures and tutorials. I chose to study here because of all of these reasons as well as the fact they have world class teaching here and it will give me many good new experiences to take home to my country.
Tell us what you like about academic teaching quality at Bangor University?
I think the academic teaching quality is very good, the professors here teach us well and also are very experienced and know their stuff. The lectures themselves are never boring and are taught well and are always easy to follow. The staff here are very good at helping us and the course is taught to the highest standard in the UK which is a huge thing for me. The teaching here is excellent.
What is the social life like in Bangor? Are you involved in any societies or sports teams? How easy it is to make friends here?
The social life in Bangor is very good and the atmosphere is so nice and everyone is so friendly. It is very easy to make good friends here because of the environment being so peaceful compared to some other bigger cities. There are lots of times when I will be sat in a group of friends that are all doing similar coursework and it is very easy to help each other out. I also have very good relations with other students from abroad as they are in the same situation as me and here without their family. It is a very good experience to be able to interact with people from all over the world here.
Your experience of living in university accommodation OR private accommodation?
I stayed in university owned accommodation while studying at Bangor and they were very nice and comfortable and in a very good area. The building was not far from anywhere I had to be because the city is very small and so they were very conveniently located. The quality of the rooms, the views, social life and bills all included except for food and washing was a very big positive for me in terms of affordability.
What do you think about Bangor and the surrounding area?
The city of Bangor is really pretty, with the Main Arts building at the top of a big hill above a lovely park. It’s a really cool place to study, because it is so peaceful and quiet it gives you a lot of time to think and study well. The scenery and landscape in and around Bangor is absolutely beautiful and the atmosphere this gives is one of calm and peace, which makes this city the perfect place in order to get a really good degree.
Any experience with the free support services available to international students at Bangor University?
I personally only visited the Student Services department once to ask about housing arrangements but apart from that, I didn’t really need the services because I was very much organised on my own. I do know that there are a large range of services available because a few of my international friends have been and told me that they have helped them with job hunting, careers advice, tenancy agreements, visas and banking, all of which was a free service. I myself was just very organised and independent but that is not to take anything away from the university. They all loved the service and said it was always very useful to speak to the International Education Centre staff.
Experience of getting part-time jobs in Bangor? How easy is it to get one?
I have only recently started looking for a part time job to gain some work experience but as of yet I have been unable to get one. I know there are a lot of schemes that the University offers and it helps in a lot of ways. I have the Bangor Employability Award (BEA) which is something that I earned whilst at university and will help me to prove to other companies and employers that I am able and confident to work and know a lot about some of the required skills in a workplace. I have also heard about the internship scheme so if I stay in Bangor for my doctorate I will definitely be looking at the internship programme a bit more carefully.
How confident are you that Bangor university degree will help you in taking your career forward?
I know that the degree I get from Bangor University will help me to get a very good job and a prosperous career. In my home country the degrees from the UK are the highest qualification I can have to help me get into the jobs I want. The course I am doing consists of 8 modules, 6 of which are finance and the other 2 are banking They cover such a vast area that with a degree in banking and finance from Bangor I will be able to get practically any job in most companies at home because of the knowledge and expertise I will be able to bring to the companies. I am hoping to get a first and I am very hard worker so I know that I will get a good job and career out of this course and degree.
What is the highlight/best thing about being a student at Bangor?
One of the best things about being in Bangor and the UK is that here, you will be exposed to a lot of opportunities and experiences that you will not have anywhere else, it is a very good learning experience to be here because you will find out a lot about yourself and what you want to do in the future.
