Pwyll ap Siôn invited to judge BBVA composer’s award

Pwyll ap Siôn, Professor of Music at Bangor, has been invited to serve on the panel of the BBVA Foundation’s international composer’s award. This year’s 9th edition of the award, given by the Madrid-based foundation, is one of the most prestigious and highly-valued awards in contemporary music.

Each year it seeks to honour and recognise a composer’s contribution in expanding the frontiers of knowledge, combining both arts and innovation. The recipient of the award receives €400,000, and in the past has included Steve Reich and Helmut Lachenmann.

In addition to Pwyll, this year’s panel members also included Sir Nicholas Kenyon, Managing Director of London’s Barbican Centre, Ms Christian Scheppelmann, Artistic Director of the Gran Teatre de Liceu, Barcelona, and Nicholas Cook, Professor of Music at Cambridge University. The recipient of this year’s award was given to Sofia Gubaidulina.
