Cefndir

Astudiodd Dominic Gwynn Hanes Modern yng Ngholeg Sant Ioan, Rhydychen rhwng 1971-4. Ers hynny, mae’n ymarfer y grefft o adeiladu organau, ac er 1980 yn un o gyfarwyddwyr Adeiladwyr Organau Martin Goetze a Dominic Gwynn. Yn 2003-4, enillodd grant Ymddiriedolaeth Leverhulme i ymchwilio, ac i ysgrifennu llyfr ar hanes cymdeithasol a diwylliannol yr organ Seisnig rhwng 1500 a 1770, project y dylai ei gwblhau yn 2008.

Diddordebau Ymchwil

Fel hanesydd, mae wedi trefnu cynadleddau, wedi traddodi darlithoedd ac ysgrifennu erthyglau, ran amlaf drwy Sefydliad Prydeinig Astudiaethau’r Organ, a rhan amlaf i adeiladu organ Brydeinig o fewn y diwylliant cerddorol yn y cyfnod 1500 i 1800. Fel adeiladwr, organ fe arbenigodd mewn adfer organau Prydeinig hanesyddol, ynghyd â gwneud rhai newydd yn yr arddull Prydeinig clasurol. Arweiniodd y cyfuniad o ymchwil a thechnegau crefft draddodiadol at brojectau atgyweirio ac adlunio cyffrous, fel arfer gyda chefnogaeth Cronfa Dreftadaeth y Loteri. Y rhai mwyaf cyffrous yw creu dwy organ newydd o ddechrau’r ail ganrif ar bymtheg ar gyfer Project yr Organ Seisnig Gynnar, a seiliwyd ar ddau seinfwrdd a ddarganfuwyd yn Suffolk yn ddiweddar. Mae’r ddwy organ wedi cynorthwyo i agor ac ysbrydoli maes cyfan mewn diwylliant cerddorol Prydeinig.
