Inspired by an episode from Dante’s Inferno, Tchaikovsky’s exciting symphonic poem kicks off an exhilarating evening of music from the longest-established and finest orchestra in North Wales. The rarely-heard Violin Concerto by Swedish composer Amanda Maier (1853-1894) provides a lyrical interlude before a performance of one of the most imposing works in the symphonic repertoire: Bartók’s vibrantly colourful Concerto for Orchestra, in which every instrument is star of the show.
