Ein Lleisiau / Our Voices
BLAS
A reading of a verbatim “Our Voices – A Play For Voices” by the students of Ysgol Friars, Bangor. Following on from the success of last year’s cross-generational project Lleisiau/Voices, this year we shall explore further the power of conversation between young people and those living with dementia, in bridging worlds and alleviating isolation. This evening sees
the culmination of an intergenerational project with the residents of Glyn Menai, Fairways Care Home and Drama and Health and Social Care students from Ysgol Friars, led by BLAS, Pontio’s arts participation programme for young people.
10 students were given an introduction to dementia, by retired Dementia Services Development Centre training officer Joan Woods, before visiting Glyn Menai and getting to know residents over a period of five weeks. The conversations which took place were recorded and then developed into a verbatim play by the young people themselves, under
the guidance of playwright and theatre practitioner Branwen Davies.
This special evening will be hosted by Gwion Hallam, presenter, writer and 2017 National Eisteddfod Crowned poet, whose winning poem was inspired by the theme of dementia.
The evening will include interviews with the young people who have taken part in the project, responses from residents and staff from Glyn Menai, as well as a conversation with Branwen Davies and Joan Woods.
