What makes a good abstract? This workshop aims to answer this question by comparing abstracts from different disciplines and then drawing conclusions about core features. You will have an opportunity to:

  • discuss in pairs and groups the characteristics of abstracts
  • look at sample abstracts to draw conclusions about core characteristics related to structure and content
  • respond to questions to help focus your research, to highlight the problem your question aims to address and to assess what you offer or contribute to existing research
  • consider techniques to help you abstract your own work
