2019/20 PhD Research Council Policy Internships Scheme (National Assembly for Wales Research Service)

We are pleased to announce an exciting opportunity for PhD students to carry out a policy internship with the National Assembly for Wales Research Service during 2020. This will give students experience of working in the fast-paced political environment of a legislature.

The Research Service provides impartial, independent and expert information services to support Assembly Members in all they do as elected representatives and to enable scrutiny of policy and legislation of the highest quality.

Students will be placed in the Assembly’s Research Service for 3 months. They will gain understanding of what it means to be a policy researcher and how evidence is used in the development of legislation, policy inquiries and debates.

This is a busy time to join the devolved legislature with the further devolution of powers, as well as the decision of the UK to leave the EU.

Successful candidates will be afforded a three month extension to their PhD timeframes to allow the placement to be completed, and it will be funded through their Research Council.

Please apply here by 12 August:https://www.ukri.org/skills/policy-internships-scheme/

Previous interns have found the experience of working at the Assembly to be very valuable – see four articles by former students about their placement: Hayley MouldingEleanor Warren-ThomasPiotr Wegorowski and Rachel Prior.
