Community Outreach
Santander Universities provides support for the annual Student Volunteering Awards run by Student Volunteering Bangor. Awards worth up to £1,000 each are awarded to recognise individual students and student projects who make an outstanding contribution to the local community through their voluntary work.
Santander Universities also provides annual support towards Bangor University’s Profi project with local schools. As well as helping with their self-esteem, the design-based Profi project aims to equip the young people who take part with better employability and entrepreneurship skills.
More about the Profi project
Profi is an experiential learning programme that supports year 12 pupils as they make the transition from GCSE to A Level. Teams of young people from schools in Gwynedd and Anglesey are set a real-life brief by a local charity.
The programme develops confidence, employability skills and widens horizons, helping young people to reach their potential. Over a period of 12 weeks, the teams work hard to develop a project proposal in response to the brief, facilitated by Profigators (Bangor University Students).
Local employers offer feedback and advice as well as insights into how the employability skills that the young people are developing are transferable into their own field of work.
The project culminates in an event at Pontio where teams pitch their ideas to a panel of judges, each hoping to win £500 for their charity to put their ideas into action.
