Studied for her first degree and postgraduate qualification as a mature student at the University of Wales, Bangor.

Subsequently worked as a freelance researcher for Centre Research Wales and the University of Wales, Bangor. Taught for a number of years on a Distance Learning scheme in North Wales . Appointed to the Department of Environment, Leisure & Tourism (now Regional and Community Studies) University of Wales, Bangor 1996 . Main fields of interest are the development of rural policies/governance in Wales and the United Kingdom ; planning and developing tourism in rural areas; social impacts of tourism . Has published work (with Thomas and Rennie) on rural planning and development of rural policies in Wales. Recent research has focused on the impact of tourism and heritage developments upon rural communities in North Wales .
