Dr David Evans
Lecturer in Healthcare Sciences (Improvement and Innovation)
David has 15 years experience working in senior leadership roles within the UK National Health Service. This includes roles within Acute and Community settings. David has also worked in the Middle East where he developed and delivered large scale health transformation projects.
In his current role, David has worked with Welsh Government, Public Health Wales and Health Education and Improvement Wales (HEIW) to deliver an innovative Improvement Programme for Dental Practitioners. More recently David is working with partners to develop care pathways for Dentistry across Wales. David has also supported Housing Associations in England and Wales, Health Board (Wales), Health Trusts (England), and Local Authority departments (including planning, housing, and community development).

I have an interest in storytelling within and around organisations. My research particularly focuses on storytelling within healthcare organisations and includes sense making, narrative and change. I use storytelling to understand actions and decisions within Healthcare, as well as to develop theoretical explanations for the intended and unintended consequences of storytelling. One example of this is a detailed analysis of the events surrounding a public inquiry into failing within in a UK NHS Hospital.
David's research focus is informed by Critical Healthcare Management Studies. His work seeks to call into question the self-evident truths and conventional views on leadership and healthcare improvement uncovering the unconscious and unnoticed consequences of taken-for-granted practices.
