I am a Science Officer in the School of Ocean Sciences. I conduct applied research to support the development of sustainable shellfish aquaculture. My PhD investigated norovirus contamination of mussels and associated human health, industrial and regulatory considerations. Since graduating I have gained broad experiences in marine and terrestrial research including international collaborations. I aim to be interdisciplinary and I am really interested in technology and innovation, methods and site selection, instrumentation, commercial viability (jobs and food for people), microbiology, food safety and environmental sustainability. I believe that aquaculture can help to meet our need for sustainable, high quality protein production and should expand. My professional background includes Lead Instrument Engineer and post-doc Science Officer, with experience in field-based applied research and leadership.
