Sports Scholarships Winner 2017 – Sam Jones

Sam Jones, 20, from Llanidloes, Powys

Former Schools: Rydal Penrhos School and Llanidloes High School

Course: Sport, Health and Physical Education

Sport: Rugby

Ranking/Representation:  Wales U20s

I played rugby from a young age for Llanidloes and Newtown Rugby Clubs. I then went on to play for Rygbi Gogledd Cymru south from 13 to 15 where I then went on to represent RGC at U16s and U18s. At 16 I left Llanidloes High School to go to Rydal Penrhos School on a WRU Academy Scholarship to further my rugby development alongside doing my A levels for 2 years. I am now currently involved with the RGC senior team.

Why Bangor?

I chose Bangor as it has a good reputation for sports degrees along with being able to continue to play rugby for RGC.

Future aims

To continue playing regularly for RGC as we push for promotion into the premiership this year and make the Wales U20s squad next year. Also to hopefully be involved with the Wales Sevens squad in the not too distant future.

Sports Scholarship

I feel very lucky and privileged to be one of the select few to receive this scholarship.
