Dr Farhaan Wali wins 'New Teacher of the Year' at Bangor University Student-Led Teaching Awards
Dr. Farhaan Wali won ‘New Teacher of the Year’ at Bangor University’s Student-Led Teaching Awards. Farhaan teaches undergraduates and postgraduate students. Run by Bangor Students’ Union together with the University, the Student-Led Teaching Awards recognise the dedication and commitment of Bangor’s teaching and support staff. All awards are nominated for by the students. Farhaan contributes to the School’s tradition of teaching excellence and dedication to the student experience.

Supercomputers used to model disaster scenarios
Undergraduate students from the School of Computer Science at Bangor University will be using supercomputers to run programmes that can predict how lethal disease might spread, or how people are likely to react in a disaster.

Welsh Livery Company’s Travel Scholarships in the field of Intellectual Property Law
On 8th May 2014, Bangor Law School welcomed members of the Welsh Livery Company. The Master of the Livery Company, Mr Windsor Coles, and Mr Andrew Richards were here to award Professor Eric Sunderland Scholarships to two of the Law School’s PhD candidates.

Ganges river dolphin research published by Bangor student
A new study (7th of May) reveals a method to improve the monitoring of the endangered Ganges river dolphin – one of only four remaining freshwater cetaceans since the Yangtze River dolphin became extinct in 2007.

Finalists and members of staff at the School of Welsh recently came together at Dylan’s restaurant at Porthaethwy for a farewell dinner. A highly enjoyable evening was had by all, which included a speech by the Head of School and the awarding of numerous prizes to the students for their great achievements throughout the year. Thanks to all for coming and in particular to Carys Tudor for making all the arrangements and ensuring the evening’s success.

A triumphant return to the Telders competition for Bangor
For the second year running, Bangor Law School is celebrating success in a world-famous mooting competition.
Last year, a team from Bangor became the first ever to represent Wales at the Telders International Law Moot Court competition, finishing 17th overall. This year’s team managed to go one step further and finish in 16th place.

Bangor University student reaches the final of the Wales International Harp Festival
Bangor University undergraduate Dian Yu, who plays the guzheng (Chinese zither), was one of six finalists to be selected by a panel of internationally renowned judges for the final round of the World Music Competition in the recent Wales International Harp Festival 2014 in Caernarfon.

SENRGy among the prizes at Bangor University Awards Ceremony
It was a fantastic night for SENRGy at Bangor University’s Student-led Teaching Awards on Wednesday March 31st. The awards, organized by the Student Union are aimed at recognizing outstanding contributions and excellence in teaching at Bangor. In addition, SENRGy was well-represented in the student Course Rep of the Year Awards, with two nominees; the most of any School in the University.

Bubble Challenge for Enterprise by Design
Enterprise by Design 2014 culminated recently with student teams pitching their ideas to a panel of judges and an invited audience. Dr Zigs Extraordinary Bubbles, a toy manufacturer based in north Wales set the challenge: design new packaging for their extraordinary toys.
