Successful Spring Market

Following on from the success of previous Christmas Markets, the B-Enterprising team at Bangor introduced a brand new event - a student ‘Spring Market’ which took place in PJ Hall on Friday 16th March.  Many new students as well, as returning stallholders from previous markets, demonstrated their enterprising skills and came forward with unique gift ideas - buyers were able to browse for original Mothers Day and Easter gifts. On offer was an inspiring range of handmade goods including one-off pieces of artwork and greetings cards, unique items of jewellery, knitted and crocheted articles, designer clothing and food delicacies from a variety of countries.  A bright colour scheme and a daffodil theme lent the occasion a festive spring feel. This was an opportunity for everyone to buy something a little personal and support the creative flair of students from across the university.

A variety of background entertainment provided by voluntary entertainers, Tom Sayer (guitarist) and Capoeira (Brazilian martial arts group that combines elements of dance and music) added to the festive mood and ensured the event went with a swing. Hot food and cakes were available for all courtesy of Bwyd@bangor

Of the market one stall holder said "The market was great; I made a bit of money, did something I love and got so many compliments!", and another "We had a great time and probably more importantly we learned a lot about real business; so much so that we're probably going to try it again!"

An enthusiastic response was also received from customers, one commenting "I was impressed with the range of handmade crafts, and the atmosphere was lovely.", and another "The entertainment was great; the best part of the day was watching Capoeira perform."

A total of £123 was collected in donations which will be divided between the voluntary entertainers and to local charities chosen by stallholders.

Maria Graal, Director of Student Experience, who gave the opening address said of the event: 'Building on the success of the two previous Christmas Student Markets, our first Spring Market demonstrates the appetite for entrepreneurship amongst our student body. B-Enterprising's year-round programme of activities supports and promotes enterprise skills amongst our students, and these student markets are a great showcase for the breadth of entrepreneurial talent and energy at Bangor University.'

The Careers and Employability Service would like to thank all staff and students who turned up to support this event as well as participating students who gave their time and energy to make it such a success.
