Bangor University was founded in 1884 and has a long tradition of academic excellence and a strong focus on the student experience. Around 11,000 students currently study at the University, with 650 teaching staff based within twenty three Academic Schools.

Modern resources and facilities
The University has impressive modern facilities, including its own research ship. Multi-million pound investments have seen the opening of the Pontio arts and innovation centre and the creation of a new student accommodation village at St Mary's. Wi-fi is available across the University and learning resources and course specific resources are available online, as you would expect from a high quality institution.

First year undergraduate students are guaranteed a place to live in University accommodation, if they select Bangor as their Firm Choice and apply before the deadline. All accommodation is in a convenient location close to the University and city centre and students living in University accommodation receive free gym and Campus Life membership.

Free clubs and societies
Student life at Bangor is vibrant and diverse. The Students' Union has over 150 different clubs and societies, including around 50 sports clubs as part of the Athletics Union. Membership of all our clubs and societies is free and you can sign-up at the Serendipity clubs and societies fair during Welcome Week. The University also runs a free programme of events, known as Campus Life for all students living in halls of residence.
