Background

Born in Bethel near Caernarfon, she attended Brynrefail High School in Llanrug before graduating in Modern Languages at the University of Oxford.  She went on to research into aspects of recent Welsh prose for her doctorate before spending periods lecturing at the University of Wales, Swansea and Cardiff University.  In October 2006, she joined the staff of the School of Welsh, Bangor University.

Her main research interest is Welsh prose of the modern period: her monograph on the writer Robin Llywelyn was published in 2000 and her critical study of Welsh fiction of the 1990s, Rhwng Gwyn a Du, in 2002.  In 2005 she published a study of the Welsh Counter-Reformationists in Italy, and she is currently completing a monograph on the writer T.H. Parry-Williams.

Angharad is also a creative writer in her own right: her first novel, Tania’r Tacsi, was published in 1999 and was followed by O! Tyn y Gorchudd which was awarded the Prose Medal at the 2002 National Eisteddfod and named Book of the Year by the Welsh Arts Council in 2003. This novel was translated into English by Lloyd Jones and published as The Life of Rebecca Jones (Gomer, 2010); in its original language it has also been published in CD form in the Llyfrau Llafar Series. In 2010 Angharad published her third novel entitled Caersaint, a contemporary novel inspired by the town of Caernarfon.
