Dr Javier Oliva's research focuses mainly on religion from a public law point of view, especially the legal position of established denominations in the United Kingdom and their relationship with public authorities. In this area he has published a book and several articles. 

Furthermore, he has a particular interest in devolution of powers in the United Kingdom from a comparative perspective.
