3.15pm - Hunting the Giant’s Daughter
with Michael Harvey
A bilingual show for adults and young people over 12yrs

The seemingly impossible odds draw King Arthur and his warriors into a magical quest to find her, filled with tests and challenges, giants and adventures. Michael weaves Welsh poetry into an imaginative telling, around a delicious mix of traditional Welsh and contemporary jazz influenced music created by Stacey Blythe (accordion, piano, harp) and singer Lynne Denman. A bilingual show for adults and young people over 12yrs.
Michael is one of the UK’s leading contemporary storytellers. He works at major international festivals in Britain, Europe and North America, telling traditional stories from the Celtic countries and beyond with humour, skill and a great sense of enjoyment.

Film fans have a treat in store on Saturday 25th February as Bangor University celebrates its first Japanese Cinema Day.
The event, which celebrates Japanese cinematic history, starts at 2pm and consists of two one-hour informal seminars and two film screenings.
This event is free to attend but places are limited and need to be booked in advance. Please email JapaneseCinemaDay@gmail.com to reserve a place or to ask any questions. The seminars will give an overview of Japanese cinematic history and show how cinema, culture, history and politics of Japan work together.
The first film will be Kurosawa Akira’s first feature film, The Most Beautiful (Ichiban utsukushiku, 1944), a propaganda film focusing on young women working in a lens factory in wartime Japan.
The second film to be shown is the Berlin Film Festival winner, Caterpillar (Kyatapirâm,2011), directed by Wakamatsu Koji. This film examines the difficult position a wife finds herself in when her disabled husband returns from the Pacific war. Please note that this film is not suitable for anyone under the age of 18.

Falla: El amor brujo, G. 68
Ginastera: Harp Concerto, Op. 25
Schumann: Symphony No. 4 in D minor, Op. 120
The University Symphony Orchestra explores the moods and rhythms of Spain and Latin America with performances of Manuel de Falla’s colourful ballet score El amor brujo (under internationally renowned Falla expert Chris Collins) and the Argentinian composer Alberto Ginastera’s excitingly virtuosic Harp Concerto. The second half of the concert presents a complete contrast, with one of Schumann’s finest and most personal symphonies, written in 1841 as a birthday gift for his wife Clara. A gloriously romantic work, the Fourth Symphony is remarkable for its intensity of feeling, its four conjoined movements unified by a single theme.

North Wales’s best-known jazz pianist is joined by Iain Ballamy for a concert of music based on Roald Dahl’s Kiss Kiss stories.
Recently described by the Guardian as "enduringly innovative" Warren and Ballamy have been at the cutting edge of the UK Jazz scene for the last 20 years. Both are winners of the BBC Jazz award for Innovation, and are composers and performers whose work easily crosses the divides between Jazz, Folk and World music. Combining virtuoso improvising with deep lyicism their repertoire is influenced by music as varied as John Dowland, Hermeto Pascoal and Chopin, and always underpinned by a gentle sense of humour. They recently presented a new extended suite of Huw Warren's at London's Kings Place are also part of the trio "Quercus" with singer June Tabor.
