MSc/MRes Bursary Information

EU/Home and International Applicants

All applicants to our Masters programmes are eligible to apply for one of our Bursaries:

  • up to £2,500 for home/EU students;

  • guaranteed £1,000 to all successful applicants with a first class honours degree;

  • a fee reduction of up to £5,000 for international students;

  • NEW - MRes awards of up to £2,500 students.

Internal Bursary for SHES (or related disciplines) Applicants

The School offers £1,000 internal bursaries to former SHES (or related disciplines) students.  Students who achieve a 1st class undergraduate degree are guaranteed an internal bursary of £1,000.  Those students achieving a 2:1 degree are also eligible to apply for a bursary awarded on merit judged on their application.

MSc/MRes Assistantships    

The School will be offering £1,000 internal assistantships in addition to the other bursaries.  Aimed at the very best students, assistantships will be awarded in exchange for 50 hours of 'professional development' work (eg lab support, seminar support etc) within the School.  

MRes Bursaries

The School offers up to £2,500 to successful applicants to any MRes programme in return for 60 hours support within the School.

International Applicants

A number of Gold (up to £5,000) and Silver (up to £2,000) awards are available for students following any MSc/MRes Programme. Students who achieve a first class (or equivalent) undergraduate degree are guaranteed a bursary of at least £1,000.

University scholarships are available for International Students applying for postgraduate study but are not awarded in addition to School awards/bursaries.

Applying for a bursary

To apply for any bursary, students must

  • Complete a Postgraduate Application Form, available from Postgraduate Admissions, e-mail postgraduate@bangor.ac.uk.
  • Submit a four page (maximum) CV by 29 June 2012 to Sarah Williams, MSc Admissions, School of Sport, Health and Exercise Sciences, at the above address or e-mail mscsport@bangor.ac.uk

The CV should include a brief overview of

  • research interests and how your interest in the sports and exercise sciences developed;
  • professional development (eg certificates, coaching qualifications);
  • extra curricula activities (eg sporting achievements, coaching);
  • work experience.

Please clearly mark the envelope or your e-mail with the name of the award(s) being applied for (or multiple in the case of Internal Bursaries or Assistantships).

The awarding decision will be based on the following criteria

  • results of his/her undergraduate degree and final year project mark;
  • reference letter;
  • the overall profile of the applicant.

Successful candidates will be notified towards the end of August/beginning of September of the year of entry and payment will be in the form of a cheque issued in October.
