The endeavour to understand the human mind and brain presents one of the greatest challenges for science. Research in language, cognition, action, emotion, social behaviour, perception, and physical and mental health is vital both to advance our understanding of human behaviour, and to promote the rehabilitation and care of people who suffer as a result of injury or disease.
Research at the School of Psychology therefore aims to advance both basic and applied science: we seek to understand fundamental relationships between brain and behaviour, and to directly contribute to the health and well being of the community. The research record of the School has been one of remarkable growth and achievement, reaching both top teaching standards and extremely high marks in the 2001 and 2008 RAE results
