September 2006: Poets Bombard Bangor!

Poets will be bombarding Bangor University this November. A conference has been organised by the University’s School of Welsh in conjunction with the Welsh Institute for Social & Cultural Affairs (WISCA). Mwy Na Rhywbeth i’w wneud? Barddoni mewn canrif Newydd (More than something to do?) Writing poetry in the new century) takes place on 17-18 November.

Mwy na Rhywbeth i’w Wneud? Barddoni mewn Canrif Newydd will be launched on the 17th of November in the company of the First National Poet of Wales, Gwyneth Lewis. Then on Saturday the 18th of November the Current National Poet of Wales, Gwyn Thomas will be putting poetry in its place in a discussion with the ‘prifardd’ Jason Walford Davies.  Dr Grahame Davies will be looking at poetry in the New Wales and Cardiff Bay Wales while Dr Jerry Hunter will be taking a look back at nature and the direction of Welsh Poetry since the 1980s and trying to predict some trends for the future.

Ifor ap Glyn will be there to shed light on his experiences as a poet – performer and also as a member of the production crew for the S4C arts programme Sioe Gelf. Myrddin ap Dafydd will also be sharing his experiences as the first Children’s Poet for Wales and as the owner of one of our busiest publishing houses, Gwasg Carreg Gwalch. The poet with the most fateful title on his paper is Dr Tudur Hallam with his ‘Autobiography of a promising young poet who’s dying’.
