Dr Angharad Price discusses Louvain at Galway

Between 12-13 October, 2007, Dr Angharad Price was a guest speaker at a conference organised by the Department of Irish at NUI Galway which was held to mark the 400th anniversary of the foundation by the Irish Franciscans of St Anthony’s College in Louvain (Belgium).

Llên y Llenor: Gwrthddiwygwyr Cymreig yr EidalThe Irish College was founded in 1607 under the patronage of the King of Spain and the Papacy and became the focus of an energetic cultural and political project that had a significant influence on Ireland’s relations with Europe, the writing of Irish history and the preservation of Ireland’s rich cultural heritage. To mark the 400th anniversary of the foundation a series of events was organised both in Louvain and throughout Ireland. “The majority of the conference speakers lectured through the medium of Irish, which was especially interesting,” said Angharad who lectured on the small but significant role played by Louvain in the history of the Welsh Counter-Reformation during the second half of the sixteenth century.
