The School of Welsh recently hosted a highly successful conference entitled Mwy Na Rhywbeth i’w Wneud? Barddoni mewn Canrif Newydd (‘More than just something to do? Writing poetry in a new century’). The conference lasted from Friday, 17 September until Saturday, 18 December and was launched with an evening in the company of Dr Gwyneth Lewis, first National Poet of Wales.
Pictured in the photograph are Professor R. Merfyn Jones, Vice-Chancellor of Bangor University together with Professor Gwyn Thomas (current National Poet of Wales), Gwyneth Lewis, and Professor Gerwyn Wiliams, Head of the School of Welsh who organised the event.
The evening was also an opportunity to celebrate the achievements of Eigra Lewis Roberts, crowned poet at this year’s National Eisteddfod, and Gwen Pritchard Griffith who was the awarded the Daniel Owen Memorial Prize for her historical novel, Dygwyl Eneidiau.
Among those present on the Friday evening were Dr Tudur Hallam, Dr Jason Walford Davies and Dr Jerry Hunter who also took part in Saturday’s discussions.
