Lois Prysor Jones from Arenig, near Bala is this year’s winner of the Dr John Robert Jones Welsh Student award at Bangor University this year. This is one of five main University prizes awarded each year. This Prize is for the best graduating student from Wales across all the University’s disciplines. Lois received a cheque for £1,000 at her recent graduation ceremony.
Lois graduated in Welsh and Welsh History. In September she begins a year long course to qualify as a secondary School teacher, specialising in teaching Welsh. Following this she hopes to follow a career in teaching.
Professor Peredur Lynch, Head of Bangor Universty’s School of Welsh said:
'Lois is fully deserving of this Award and her achievement shows that truly talented students are attracted to study at Bangor University. The task of teaching her and assessing her essays was pure pleasure and deserved praise should go to Ysgol y Berwyn Y Bala, for producing such a talented student.'
Says Lois: “Winning this award is unbelievable and I’m delighted! I’d like to thanks the lecturers for their ready assistance.”
“I chose to study in Bangor University as it has a good academic reputation across Wales and further afield, and I felt that Bangor offered the best opportunities for me to study.
“The best thing about my course is the range of modules that were available which enabled me to widen my understanding and enrich my knowledge in relation to Welsh history and Welsh.
“The best thing about my time at Bangor was meeting and making new friends and having the opportunity to study in a university in one of the most beautiful areas of Wales.”
Lois is a former pupil of Ysgol y Berwyn, Y Bala.
