Modernism and Minorities

newspaper

On Thursday, January 20 scholars from across Wales came together to discuss aspects of ‘Modernism’ and their relation to minority cultures. In a multidisciplinary conference hosted by the School of Welsh and funded by the British Academy, speakers were invited to approach questions of ‘Modernism’ and modernity from minority perspectives. Departing from the Welsh and English-language literatures of Wales, papers covered aspects of Catalan and Galician literature, as well as native American literary theory, and extended to discuss other media such as film. The speakers included lecturers from four different Schools at Bangor University: Welsh, English, Modern Languages and Creative Industries . It is hoped that this workshop will form a basis for a more extensive conference in the future.
