Very warm congratulations are extended to Sian Owen, a PhD student at the School of Welsh, whose first novel has reached the Welsh Book of the Year long list. The ten books to reach the long list were announced at a ceremony co-organised by the School at Bangor in April. Sian's novel Mân Esgyrn ('Fine Bones') is a sophisticated and subtle novel set in the
Amlwch area of Sian's native Anglesey, and revolves around events that happen during one
summer weekend. One of the novel's themes is the search for what belonging means. The
adjudicators this year were Branwen Gwyn, John Gwilym Jones and Aled Lewis Evans and the short list will be announced during the Hay Festival.
