The School of Psychology is committed to providing assistance to help an accepted postgraduate candidate secure funding. There are different sources of funding for every postgraduate course and for every type of candidate (UK/EU or international). In this page you can find a comprehensive list of ways to fund your postgraduate training.

Masters Degrees

UK/EU Students Only

Achievement Scholarship

The School is offering a £1,000 fee-reduction achievement award to all successful MSc applicants (all programmes) from the UK/EU applying with a first-class undergraduate degree in a Psychology-related discipline.

Internal Students Only

Bangor Psychology students who have successfully applied for an MSc course (all programmes) with a first-class undergraduate degree will be offered a fee-reduction scholarship of £1,500 if they decide to continue their studies with us.

The School also offers a fee-reduction scholarships worth £500 each for internal students (regardless of degree classification), on the basis of an essay, ‘My Experience as a Bangor Psychology Undergraduate’. Deadline: 1st August 2012.

International Students Only

Gold & Silver Scholarships

The School of Psychology is pleased to announce that there are a number of International (non-EU) Scholarships available to students applying for postgraduate study commencing in September 2012. These will be awarded to applicants who have completed a scholarship statement and who are demmed to have outstanding qualifications for their chosen programme of study.

A number of Gold (up to £5,000) and Silver (up to £2,000) will be awarded by the School in 2012. These are available for all Psychology Masters courses. To apply for one of these scholarships, candidates must submit a 500-1000 word statement in support of their application, and which answers the question, ‘Why have you chosen to apply to study Psychology at Bangor?’

The deadline for applying is 1st June 2012. Please send the statement, along with a short covering letter, to psychology@bangor.ac.uk

Bangor University International Education Centre

The International Education Centre has a number of guaranteed scholarships available for outstanding International students applying for Postgraduate study. Please click here for further details. 

All Students

Students may apply for more than one source of funding, however students may not take up more than one source. If they are successful with multiple applications, students will normally take up the funding that is of the highest value. Students must ensure that they are eligible for the funding they apply for.

Psychological Research Gold & Silver Scholarships

There are a number of Gold (up to £5,000) and Silver (up to £2,000) scholarships ring-fenced to the MSc Psychological Research programme. Applicants must submit a 300-500 word research proposal, outlining what they would like to pursue as a research topic. Research proposals should be emailed to psychology@bangor.ac.uk. Deadline: 1st June 2012.

Postgrad Solutions Ltd is continuing its commitment to supporting postgraduate students, and is offering 13 new bursaries to students starting postgraduate courses in autumn 2012. Click here for more information.

British Psychological Society Welsh Branch

The BPS Welsh Branch has a number of bursaries and hardship bursaries available to both undergraduates and postgraduates. All applicants must be members or student subscribers of the BPS and studying psychology at a Welsh institution or Welsh branch of a National Institution. The maximum amount for an individual bursary currently stands at £200. Please visit their website for further details.

Commonwealth Scholarships

The Commonwealth Scholarships Commission in the United Kindom can provide scholarships for Masters study in the UK for citizens of a developing Commonwealth county. Please visit their website for more information.

Doctorate in Clinical Psychology

Posts are funded by the Welsh Assembly Government. Successful candidates become salaried Trainee Clinical Psychologists in the employment of the Conwy and Denbighshire NHS Trust and are paid on the appropriate spine points (17-20) of the Whitley recommended pay spine. The course does not accept self-funded trainees.
