MSc Psychological Research

This Masters reflects the School's commitment to the professional future of students finishing their first degree. In this Masters we combine a series of specialised and transferable skills that are crucial for your professional future as a psychologist. The course provides students with a thorough grounding in modern empirical methodology in psychological research as well as in depth content modules based around cutting edge research topics. Students may follow a general programme or by choosing particular options focus their programme around the major academic strengths of the school which are currently Clinical and Health Psychology, Clinical Neuroscience and Cognitive Neuroscience.

MA Psychology

This is a new course designed to offer advanced study in psychology with an emphasis on both research excellence and critical writing skills. Following two semesters of academic study, students write a stand-alone literature review in an area of psychology that particularly appeals to them.

MRes Psychology

This provides a dedicated route for high calibre students who (may have a specific research aim in mind and) are ready to carry out independent Psychology related research leading to PhD level study; or who are seeking a stand-alone research based qualification.  It differs from a traditional Masters in that there are less taught modules with more emphasis placed on the dissertation.

MSc Foundations of Clinical Psychology

This Masters is designed for students wishing to pursue doctoral level training in clinical psychology (Doctorate in Clinical Psychology or PhD in Clinical Research). The Course provides a strong academic foundation in areas that are helpful for advanced study in clinical psychology. With this Masters you can gain additional experience and thereby improve your chances of being accepted into the Doctorate programme in Clinical Psychology. Please note, the course does not constitute professional training in clinical psychology.

MSc/MA Consumer Psychology with Business

The marriage of both disciplines in this course is a natural one, as understanding behaviour and specifically consumer behaviour in the world of business can be crucial to organisational success.Today’s organisations need highly trained people who can help them understand their consumers and understand issues such as: what makes them choose one product over another? Do brand names and advertising really affect our thinking? Will the internet change the face of urban and suburban shopping areas? Candidates may choose between the MA or MSc routes, which are differentiated by the nature of the dissertation. The MSc dissertation will involve undertaking empirical research, whilst the MA dissertation will involve an extended literature review.

MSc Foundations of Clinical Neuropsychology

This MSc is designed to provide students with a strong knowledge-base in clinical neuropsychology as a basis for research, clinical training, or professional practice in this area.

MSc Applied Behaviour Analysis

This programme is aimed at those wishing to specialise in applied behaviour analysis, or applied psychology. The course is designed to develop advanced theoretical and practical knowledge of the basic principles of behaviour analysis and the application of the principles within clinical and research settings. The programme has been developed by Board Certified Behaviour Analysts (BCBA) in collaboration with the Behaviour Analysts Certification Board, (BACB,); it covers their entire Task List specifications and is recognised by the BACB, as providing the content eligibility criteria necessary to sit the full BCBA exam.

MSc Neuroimaging

This MSc is  one of the few programmes in the UK, and is exceptional in its focus on medical aspects in Neuroimaging. The programme is designed to provide students with the background knowledge and technical skills to design, analyze and evaluate imaging research.

MSc/MA Mindfulness-Based Approaches

This MSc or MA is designed to provide students with a strong experiential and theoretical knowledge-base as a basis for professional practice, teaching and research in the area of integrating mindfulness practice into work and life.


MSc/MA in Teaching Mindfulness-Based Courses

This MSc or MA gives students a thorough and rigorously assessed training to teach courses in Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction and Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy.

MSc/PgDip/PgCert Behavioural Neurology and Neuropsychiatry

The goal of the course is to provide health professionals, especially those interested in careers in academic neurology or psychiatry or neuropsychology, with a post-qualification course that includes taught modules in clinical and experimental neuropsychology, cognitive neuroscience and the biological basis of mental illness as well as research experience in cognitive neuroscience and experimental neuropsychology.

Part-time PgCert Clinical and Functional Brain Imaging

This part-time certificate course offers post-qualification training for health professionals. It is one of the few courses in the UK that offers a foundation in functional neuroanatomy, diagnostic brain imaging and research skills in anatomical and functional brain imaging including: functional MRI, anatomical imaging, Diffusion Tensor Imaging, and spectroscopy.
