The School of Psychology ranks among the very best in the UK in terms of both research performance and teaching excellence, and it is also amongst the oldest Psychology departments having been established in 1963. Bangor's Psychology Dept. is ranked 16th overall in the 2014 Times Good University Guide and has been regularly ranked in the top 5 for students satisfaction in the National Student Survey. Bangor also ranks in the top ten for Research power based on the most recent Research Assessment Exercise. The department has been described by an external examiner as ‘producing some of the best psychology undergraduates in the UK’ and prides itself on the pastoral care available to its students. The international standing of Bangor Psychology is well illustrated by the fact that it is one of a select few UK Psychology departments listed in the CHE European Excellence Ranking and it is ranked within the top 100 Psychology departments world wide by the QS World University Rankings.
The School also boasts a number of prestigious research centres which, as well as being in the vanguard of academic research, offer students unique opportunities for project work under internationally recognised supervisors. The School forms a large part of the College of Health and Behavioural Sciences, a College which boasts a very strong research and teaching ethos that translates into excellent courses.
