Students receiving certificatesHard-working students from all over north Wales have received awards in recognition of their achievements at a ceremony last Wednesday evening, 12 January at, Bangor University.

Each course that is run by Lifelong Learning at Bangor University is part of a credit system which enables students to work towards a qualification at their own pace. On successful completion of an accredited module a student is awarded a number of credit points, usually 10 or 20, sometimes 30 or more. As students accumulate credits it is possible to progress through the certificate and diploma levels to achieve a degree.

Over 30 students had achieved 60 credits and were the first to receive the new Lifelong Learning Certificate in Open Studies.

Higher Education Certificates are made up of 120 credits, which is the same as completing the first year of a full time University course; 6 students were awarded a HE Certificate this year.

The certificates represented a period of hard work ranging between 1 – 4 years of higher education courses. The certificates were presented by the Director of Lifelong Learning, Dr David Sullivan. He said "We are delighted at the students' achievements and are pleased that more and more are taking advantage of the opportunities available to them by studying part-time.  Their commitment and hard work is to be commended, and we’re proud to be here this evening to share their success with their friends and families."

Lifelong Learning, at Bangor University, provides high quality and flexible part-time educational opportunities across North Wales - from individual modules to part-time undergraduate and Masters level study.
