Your route to a Masters in Psychology
BUIC delivers the first stages of the International Incorporated Masters (IIM) in Psychology. The programme provides either one term or two terms of preparation for entry into a 1-year master's degree in Psychology at Bangor University.

Academic Study Skills
This module will develop your study skills to support you in critical thinking and the evaluation of postgraduate level materials. You will be made aware of good and poor academic practice, need for referencing and the avoidance of plagiarism. You will also be introduced to further strategies and techniques that will support you to become a more independent learner.
Concepts in Psychology
This module will provide you with a conceptual and historical understanding of psychology and how it has developed into the academic discipline that it is today. The focus of the course will be on theoretical understandings of psychology - how psychology as a science pursues discovery of new things through experimentation and scientific endeavour, this course will focus on how these findings are understood and interpreted using classic and contemporary theories. The module will explore the social and cultural construction of psychology, including theories on gender, politics and ethics, and will show how psychology may operate as a powerful form of knowledge.
Personality and Individual Differences
This module addresses key topics within the field of personality, intelligence and individual differences. The module is split into two parts: intelligence and personality and each will be assessed separately. The areas covered involve historic and current perspectives on personality, including psychoanalysis, humanistic and trait approaches. Individual differences and intelligence will be explored including intelligence testing, emotional intelligence and heritability of intelligence.
Introduction to the Welsh Context
The aim of the module is to introduce you to the largely public settings in which psychological services are planned and delivered to clients in Wales. This will enable students coming to Bangor to study programmes in professional subjects to understand and contextualise the learning more effectively.
Scientific Communication
During this module you will learn about the scientific method and the importance within a scientific context of conveying information. This will involve studying scientific texts and listening to lectures. You will also be given the opportunity to demonstrate your understanding of and ability to engage in scientific writing.
Professional Studies Project
In this module you will be required to reflect on what it is to be a professional and the approach and standards required to practise effectively. This will involve exploring the concept of placing the client at the centre of your professional activities.
