What is the Research Excellence Framework (REF)?

The Research Excellence Framework (REF) is the system for assessing the quality of research in UK universities.

The first REF took place in 2014, and more than three-quarters of Bangor’s research was recognised as either world-leading or internationally excellent.

About our Research

Research is central to Bangor University; it is an integral part of our teaching and a passion of our academic staff. The 2014 Research Excellence Framework recognised that more than three-quarters of Bangor’s research is either world-leading or internationally excellent, ahead of the average for all UK universities.
