Sport Science and PE taster: how physical literacy will influence the teaching of PE in Schools
This webinar examines how the concept of physical literacy is transforming approaches to PE.
Anchored in Sport England’s consensus statement “Physical literacy is our relationship with movement and physical activity throughout life” the session highlights the need for PE to go beyond the teaching of sport and the acquisition of sport specific skills and instead nurture meaningful, positive relationships with physical activity.
Participants will explore the consensus statement and it's nuances and how purposeful pedagogical practice can create positive experiences that foster motivation, confidence, and long-term engagement. The webinar also discusses how shaping a supportive motivational climate and embedding inclusive approaches ensure that every young person feels valued, capable, and connected. Ultimately, the session reinforces the need to cultivate lifelong enjoyment, participation, and well-being through movement. This session is relevant to those who wish to work with children and young people in both formal settings (school and sports clubs) and informal settings (youth work, community development and place working).
This session will be delivered through the medium of English.
