VAT - Goods Purchased from the USA

 

Depending on the type of goods purchased from the USA a standard duty rate will be payable in addition to VAT. This also applies to internet transactions. When you determine the price of goods that are sold on the internet or by other means there will be three important factors to remember.

1. The exchange rate for the day.

2. Applying the correct VAT (usually 17.5%).

3. Applying the correct duty rate (this will vary between goods, see list below)

Below is a list of the most common purchases together with the rate of duty and VAT payable. Goods that are not on this list will probably still be liable to duty and VAT. In this instance, please contact the Finance Office for advice.
