A Joyful Celebration of Culture at Northop Hall!
We had a wonderful full day of Chinese New Year workshops at Northop Hall, one of the new schools where we began teaching this year. The school was buzzing with excitement as pupils took part in lively, creative, and hands-on activities inspired by Chinese New Year traditions.
Pupils particularly enjoyed working with clay to create their own Chinese knot designs and making bright paper lanterns. They learned that lanterns symbolise hope, happiness, and family reunion, and also explored the meaning of Chinese New Year and how it is celebrated in China and around the world, with its strong links to good fortune and fresh beginnings.
The pupils’ enthusiasm was clear throughout the day. One Year 4 pupil shared, “I loved the Chinese workshop because I enjoy doing crafts from a different culture.” Another said, “I loved making the clay knots because I learnt a new skill,” while a third pupil added, “I liked the Chinese workshop; it has inspired me to travel to China when I am older.”
It was a joy to see so much imagination, curiosity, and pride in their work. The workshops brought Chinese culture to life in a colourful and engaging way, and we were delighted to share this special celebration with the pupils and staff at Northop Hall.
The Headteacher, Lynne Harrison, commented, “The children have absolutely loved learning about Chinese culture and have been so engaged throughout the day.”
