About Pharmacology
Have you ever wondered how aspirin alleviates pain, how antibiotics kill bacteria or how medicines cause side effects? Pharmacology is the science of understanding how medicines work and how they affect us. It is pharmacologists who discover new treatments to prevent, alleviate or cure a range of diseases.
Why Study Pharmacology?
A Pharmacology degree provides opportunities for innovative and exciting careers in discovering and testing new drugs or conducting research through clinical trials. Bangor’s BSc in Pharmacology is designed to equip you with science-based skills and knowledge in medicines and how they work, as well as how they are used, and assessed for their effectiveness and value. The course combines different forms of teaching that cover the various aspects of pharmacology – from how drugs are discovered and trialled in humans, to how they are assessed by organisations such as regulatory and reimbursement authorities.

Our research
Medicines-related research at Bangor University includes pharmacogenetic studies to develop new cancer drugs, clinical trials and economic evaluation. Our achievements have been recognised by our recent rankings in the Research Excellence Framework (9th out of 89 universities in terms of internationally-excellent or world-leading research).
