Overview
I am an environmental researcher specialising in the restoration of temperate ecosystems. My PhD is part of the Wildlife Trusts’ Temperate Rainforest Restoration Programme, in partnership with Aviva. My research focuses on ecologically based approaches to temperate rainforest restoration, examining their effectiveness in delivering biodiversity recovery, enhanced carbon sequestration, and improved ecosystem resilience.
Qualifications
- BSc: Applied Terrestrial and Marine Ecology
- MSc: MSc by Research in Environment
University of York,
Research Interests
My research centres on restoration ecology, with a particular focus on priority habitat recovery, ecosystem function, and applying ecological evidence to practical land management under environmental change. My PhD combines field-based experimentation and monitoring to evaluate restoration outcomes in degraded temperate rainforest systems.
I hold an MSc by Research in Environment from the University of York, where I specialised in mountain ecology, soil science, and spatial analysis. I graduated with First Class Honours in Applied Terrestrial and Marine Ecology (BSc) from Bangor University, where I received the William Griffith Award.
Prior to my PhD, I worked as a Sustainable Management Advisor with Natural Resources Wales, supporting the recovery of Natura 2000 sites across South Wales. This role developed my experience in evidence-based conservation, project delivery, and stakeholder engagement. I have a strong background in applied ecological field research in challenging environments.
Personal
I am a qualified Mountain Leader and have led youth expeditions with the British Exploring Society in the UK and Canada, combining science, adventure and environmental stewardship. I enjoy mountain biking in Eryri and the Forest of Dean.
